Bette was originally started by two amazing women who loved the beach and the casual coastal lifestyle of southern California.

Both were feeling uninspired with their jobs and found themselves dreaming up a cute lifestyle brand that embodied the beauty of life on the coast. The casual, yet glamorous California coastal lifestyle that shines bright like a Slim Aarons photograph. Sophisticated
and elegant but not too serious.

These two amazing women were the origins of the Bette brand.

I’m Laurie. I’ve been in marketing for 25 years, most recently as a consultant, working for myself. It’s been an amazing journey, but something was nagging at me to do something new. Something where I could be part of a community of women. Somewhere I could help women feel good about themselves and feel my own joy doing it. Somewhere I could also bring my family into the mix to live and work this ethos.

Queue my serendipitous meeting with one of the owners of Bette. She and her partner loved Bette and everything they had built, but needed to move on in their careers. It was a match made in heaven. I related to everything they stood for (and loved every last product on the website).

“I feel better when I like my outfit”. We joke about it often but, right or wrong, it really is true. When you look good, you feel good and that's exactly the confidence I want you to have every time you wear a Bette style.

I create swimsuit cover up and beach bag collections with collaborators (including my 18-year-old daughter!) that are easy to wear and make you feel gorgeous, whether you are a size 2 or 14. With fabrics that drape any shape to make you feel more confident and add a little va va voom 💃💃, and colors that brighten your smile.

Bette was one of the original owner’s grandmother's name. She believed in living the good life. She loved vacations, relaxing, connecting and just having fun with her family and friends. Bette believed in balance. She saw the humor in things and allowed herself to have fun!!

I feel like Bette was a kindred spirit. Maybe because we all have a little Bette in us. So Bette’s legacy will live on. I hope I do her proud.
