When a flowy dress needs a little more shape, this cotton rope belt is my go-to.

Our Cotton Nautical Rope Belt is handmade (by us!) from true nautical cotton rope, finished with fringe tassels that bring just the right amount of beachy charm. We started making these because so many of our maxi styles are designed to drape beautifully, and sometimes women want a bit more definition at the waist. This belt gives you that shape in seconds, without changing the relaxed, coastal mood of Bette.

It’s also one of those pieces that makes packing easier. One belt, multiple looks. Loose and breezy for the day, then tied tighter and defined for dinner.

Fit & feel

Each belt is approximately 5.5 feet long, which gives you enough length to tie a statement knot, wrap it once or twice, and choose where you want the tassels to land.

Because it’s true nautical rope, it may feel a little less bendable when you first start wearing it. That’s normal. It softens and loosens up over time with wear (and with tying/untying), and it becomes even easier to style the more you use it.

How to wear it

This belt is the definition of “same dress, totally different vibe.”

Try it:

• Classic waist tie: wrap once and tie a knot at the side for a flattering, easy drape
• Front knot: tie at center front so the tassels become the center of attention
• Back knot: define your waist but keep the front clean and minimal
• Double wrap: if you prefer a slimmer look, wrap twice and tie a smaller knot
• Low-slung tie: wear it closer to the hips on a loose maxi for a relaxed, coastal feel
• Over a kimono: belt it over a flowy layer for shape (and a little drama)

Pro tip: Move the knot around depending on your mood. Side knot feels casual-cute, center knot feels bold, back knot feels sleek.
