I designed the Malibu Poppy Short Kaftan because I wanted that kaftan feeling (breezy, confident, a little dramatic) without the full-length commitment. This one is the modern version. It’s light, floaty, and made for those resort days when you’re bouncing between the pool, the beach, lunch, a quick change, and then somehow you’re at a sunset drink like it was always the plan.
The shape is what makes it special: batwing sleeves that drape in the prettiest way, a low V-neck that feels bold without trying too hard, and a drawstring waist so you can decide the vibe. Cinch it when you want shape. Loosen it when you want that airy, ethereal swish.
And the print? Our custom California poppy design, made just for Bette. It’s bright, playful, and absolutely not here to be ignored.

Fit & feel
This is a one size piece with a roomy, relaxed fit. The batwing sleeves give coverage through the shoulders and arms, and the fabric drapes instead of clinging.
The drawstring lets you adjust:
- the shape (more defined waist or more flow)
- even the length feel, depending on how you cinch it
One note I always share honestly: the fabric has some sheerness, especially in bright light. As a swim cover-up, it’s perfect. If you’re wearing it out, just add a slip, tank dress, or your favorite simple base layer underneath.
How to wear it
This is the “all day at the resort” piece, and it also does real life really well.

Are you tired of looking like a hot mess on the beach? Don't worry, we've got you covered! Well, actually, your beach coverup has got you covered, but you get the point. Here are some tips on how to wash your beach coverup:
Check the care label. You know what they say, always read the label before washing! Unless you want to end up with a shrunken and discolored coverup, then by all means, go ahead and skip this step.
Wash it on a delicate cycle. Your beach coverup is delicate, just like that fine china that you never use. So, treat it with care and wash it on a delicate cycle. (Hand wash for longer-lasting wear.)
Wash it in cold water. Your coverup is hot enough, so give it a break and wash it in cold water. Hot water will only make it more wrinkly than a raisin.
Use a mild detergent. Avoid harsh detergents or bleach unless you're trying to give your coverup a punk rock look. But if that's the case, we suggest adding some safety pins and Doc Martens to complete the outfit.
Air dry it if you can. If you want to avoid a fashion disaster, don't even think about putting your beach coverup in the dryer. The heat will make it look like a miniature version of what it used to be. That being said, if you must, terry cloth can go in the dryer on LOW LOW LOW.
Spot clean stains immediately. If you spill something on your beach coverup, don't wait until it becomes a permanent accessory. Spot clean it immediately before it turns into a "what was I thinking?" moment. Tide wipes or even baby wipes are great to have on hand for a quick cleanup.
Steam it. If you are feeling fancy or headed to a fun beach party, the best way to get your coverup looking just perfect is to steam to get any wrinkles out.
Shake it off! Listen to those Swifties this time! If your coverup has some tassels, give them a little shake! They will be perfectly straight in no-time.

What fabric is this made out of?
The Malibu Collection is made from viscose modal fabric.
This fabric is one of the reasons this kimono feels so good on. It has that smooth, almost silky finish you want in a statement layer, but it’s also breathable, light, and much easier to care for than something precious.
